all hail the fool

lucy came on the morning train and she told me she felt blue

she said the world could end and there’d be nothing left we could do

i never did buy what the people liked, she said, i’ve been alone long before

but now it’s out of hand, i don’t understand them any more

and i took her out sailing under the sky of blue

said lucy i feel the same as you

but you know i don’t believe we have the right to fight this fight

all hail the fool - may he rule, hide your eyes in the wool

hear the crowd shouting out, free of doubt and ridicule

it’s a sweet sound of freedom for the ones who were forsaken and let down

all hail the fool

they say a book’s a magic look into the world that went before

if there’s a time machine then a tv screen is the door

but give the choice to the people’s voice and the means can beat the ends

now the man is saying he’s gonna make us great again

and i listened to lucy say it’s a losing fight

we can’t work the day, or sleep at night

i said lucy i believe we have to turn our heads away and pray

all hail the fool…

lucy said if we go to bed, we could find some comfort there

if we have to give it up then we can live it up if we dare

i just smiled, said stay a while, ah but lucy those days are gone

just an aftertaste of what’s wasted on the young

and i look at a web of ever more lies to tell

when there’s power to win or there’s junk to sell

and they talk about a time when men were men and might was right

they wanna fight…

                      all hail the fool…
